At Splendour in the Grass, we have families covered with a chilled-out camping area and our dedicated children’s festival Little Splendour, where kids of all ages can buzz out doing a wide variety of arts, crafts, and musical workshops. There’s a fully supervised, paid child-minding service if you’re looking to escape to the Amphitheatre for a romantic date night.

Little Splendour

Got young ones in tow? Head to Little Splendour, a secure, dedicated, magical kids’ space for play and exploration! Jam packed with excellent activities catering for every type of kid, you’ll find endless delights for your young punks. For the crafty types, there’s both DIY art and structured craft workshops where kids can create and participate. For sporty kids, a giant climbing wall, slackline, and jumping castle are on hand to help get the sillies out. And for the young at heart, you’ll meet clowns, magicians, roaming theatre performers, puppet masters, and balloon artists that will have you buckled over in laughter and delight!

We’ve got live music performers covering everything from indie kindy and munchkin metal to folk rock, and a workshop where the next generation of DJ legends will get to practice their skills on the decks. The Little Splendour 2023 edition will present plenty of fan favourites including the Artie Fartie Partie, super fun playground, dress up, sandpit, steppingstone and sports equipment, Story Telling Tipi as well as beautiful stilt walkers, mesmerising mermaids, and plenty more!

We also offer a professional babysitting service for when you need some precious me-time. To help us plan our carers, bookings by July 1 are essential for little ones under 5 years. Click here to make bookings and enquiries.

2023 LITTLE SPLENDOUR BABYSITTING CLUB

Welcome to #clubcreche! Running from 12pm – 12am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in a fully secured area within Little Splendour is our professional Babysitting Club, operated by our corporate childcare partner Corporate Kidz Australia. Managed and staffed by trained teachers and childcare professionals, kids can enjoy the art and craft area, games and kits, movies, and books. There is also an extra room for older children. Parents can drop their kids off and enjoy some adult time for a maximum of 2 hours at a time knowing that their treasures will be looked after.

Bookings are required for ALL children under 5, as we need to allocate an individual staff member to your child/family so please book before July 1.

A unique blend of art and sport, circus is for everyone! Circus Arts are back at Little Splendour with their breathtaking aerial rig. Expect to be entertained with cabaret-style acts on rope, silks, and trapeze, plus a chair balancing act (oh-oh!) and a hula hoop performance!

Curtis and Dave are masters of freestyle football, a thrilling sport that involves using a soccer ball to create mesmerising tricks and routines. With their exceptional talent and years of experience performing and competing both locally and internationally, they are sure to captivate the Little Splendour crowd. Resident balloon twister Tony Twist returns to Little Splendour to make your balloon ideas come to life! Whether you choose to join in on his hands-on balloon workshop or ask Tony to make you something totally unique, you will leave with your own amazing balloon creation to take home. The Fiesta Creations entertainment production house are the life of the party! Synergising high vibes with expert production outcomes, couture costume creations, and breath-taking skills that slay, Fiesta Creations will bring their signature, beautiful stilts to Little Splendour.

Channel your inner Flume. We’re all going to…DJ Skool! Returning for the fourth time at Little Splendour DJ Skool invites you to have fun learning how to mix like the pros and create your own dance party!  Presented by Together Agency and Cory Fletcher, DJ Skool provides a unique way for kids to discover what DJing is all about, to test out how to use the equipment that the pros use, and to see the fun in mixing bangers! Supported by Pioneer DJ, the DJ Skool workshop is perfect for kids aged 5 -16 who are new to music and want to experience what it’s like to be a DJ!  And as a Little Splendour treat, Cory will be joined by none other than our little Lisa Be, who’s not so little anymore! The smiley young DJ first cut her teeth at Little Splendour in the Silent Disco. Now all grown up, she’s coming to teach her craft to other keen youngsters.

Move over Lizzo, there’s another flautist in town! Returning to Little Splendour in 2023, DJ Sonica-Ayre is better known as Aesa, a 15-year-old DJ and flautist who has been playing since he was 11 years of age. With a focus on flute for orchestra, combined with learning DJ skills from DJ school at festivals such as Splendour in The Grass and Earth Frequency, Aesa has combined the two performance instruments into one single act.  DJ Sonica-Ayre is currently focussed on creating family friendly mixes that he can scratch and play flute live for a totally unique musical experience.

If you’ve ever wanted to meet a mermaid, now’s your chance! These friendly, entertaining mermaids will be at Little Splendour to spread mermaid magic and create special memories! Presented by Hire a Mermaid, these mermaids will perform in our field to provide a one-of-a-kind, enchanting, and interactive experience for both kids and adults alike. A gorgeous array of hanging, clanging, and banging instrument so mini music lovers can create some masterful sounds.

LITTLE BIG TOP STAGE PERFORMANCES

Lee, Vee, and Meg are Tiptoe Giants, a trio who write, record, and perform original music for families to enjoy together.  Between them they are professional musicians, Sydney Conservatorium graduates, music educators, a registered music therapist, a professional writer, professional dancers, mums, aunties, 2020 ARIA and 2022 AIR Award Nominees. With songs deeply rooted in music therapy they also offer an enjoyable sonic and lyrical experience for little people and grown-ups alike.  Get ready for fun and catchy music overflowing with ‘hidden vegetables’ for the hearts and minds of all ages.

Little Splendour fan fave, Sound Synergy returns for an interactive drumming performance that will immerse the whole family into the magical world of rhythm. Join Gareth Jones, chief percussionist and creator and facilitator of Sound Synergy, as he uses an array of drums and other percussion instruments to teach all about the rhythmical pulse and the groove of music. Get your body moving, let your arms dance on a drum and feel the beat through your feet.  An amazing soundtrack has been carefully crafted with a cool tribal based groove to help the children to lock into the rhythm and play along to the beats with their parents. Think Fleetwood Mac meets The White Stripes and you’re getting close to new 3-piece band The Gumboots folk rock energy. Their catchy songs are chock full of harmonies and groove, celebrating the things that kids find intriguing with songs like The Toad Lament, Digger, the Mozzie Blues and Leech at the Beach. With Melia Naughton (Scarlett Affection, Shire Choir and New Blood) on guitar and vocals, Elodie Crowe (Tigertown, MT Warning and New Blood) on bass and vocals and Ben Cox (Majestic Knights) on drums and percussion, this interactive and energetic band will be memorable for both kids and their adult companions!

Performing Punch & Judy shows for over 20 years now is Little Splendour favourites, Kiddywinks Puppet Theatre. This year expect a very funny seaside show that will have the young and young at heart joining in. With various characters from a tickly Octopus to a snappy Crocodile – Mr Punch will need the help of the audience to avoid having his sausages stolen! Prepare for a traditional show with a modern twist – it will have everyone laughing!

KIDZKLUB AUSTRALIA PRESENTS – THE ARTIE FARTIE PARTIE AND PAINTING WALL

The Artie Fartie Partie is back with a whole lot of messy, crafty fun! This crazy painting table is always a hit with kids as they paint with everything from cotton tips, spotters, rollers, and blobbers to stampers and droppers. There is collage, drawing, stencilling, mask making, beading, glitter, and glue, play doh and paddle pop stick construction and more! This art space uses 80% recycled or collected materials only and has every bit and bob you can think of from leaves and shells, bottle tops, old glasses frames, belt buckles, buttons, and boxes galore! The children will reuse and upcycle to their creative hearts content and walk away with some unbelievable creations.

If that’s not enough, unleash your creative side and join with us at the painting wall to decorate the fence that borders our magical Little Splendour space. Using lots of different tools and all the colours of the rainbow, we will transform the fence line. Keep your eye out for graffiti workshops over the weekend too so your little one can channel their inner Banksy.

PROGRAMMED ART WORKSHOPS TENT

Direct from The Farm Byron Bay is Farm Kids, who will transport their love all things natural to Little Splendour! Across three workshops, children will have fun creating magical, take-home souvenirs made from natural and recycled materials, whilst also enjoying some of the best things in life, sunshine, music, and fresh air.

Farm Kids will present three fabulous workshops where kids will make:

  1. Festival bunting from recycled fabric.
  2. Bath salts with layered dried flowers in cute jars.
  3. Paper flower garlands from used magazines.

Get ready for a colour explosion courtesy of Aspiral Design! Qualified colour therapist Shoshana Fitzgerald has led interactive workshops that have touched the lives of over 10,000 adults and children. She returns to Little Splendour with this colourful workshop that will teach your young ones how to make groovy spirals on their own bucket hats and tote bags. The perfect accessory to your Splendour vibes!

After watching Kiddywinks puppet show in the Little Big Top it is time to make your own puppet. Julia from Kiddywinks will help the kids come up with their own little character and then the children can collaborate and do their own puppet shows.

Join Tanja as she puts some rock n’ roll into craft workshops, turning them into fashionable items your kids can wear at the festival.

  1. Splendour Sunnies – Decorate a pair of sunnies with pipe cleaners, glitter, paint pens, gems, wool, pom poms, felt and more for the ultimate Splendour farshun accessory.
  2. Badge Workshop – design and make your own badge to pop on your jacket or tee.
  3. Music Mandalas – With old vinyl records as a base for a mandala, Tanja will guide you to how make a mandala using paint, pens, gems and bits of felt.

Rachel from HER.ART is a proud Mununjali woman sharing contemporary stories and traditional language through her artwork, and she is here to inspire creative minds through three days of immersive play. Utilising natural and eco-friendly material we will transform sticks into a giant hut of wonder inspired by a traditional humpy (Aboriginal hut).

Kids will get their hands dirty with different coloured clays and sculpting clay, all locally unearthed with caution and care so your young ones can sculpt and paint with all natural materials.

Aiba will help kids create strong, bushy, outdoorsy bracelets!

At Little Splendour, the creatives from SurfPaints will run a free flowing ‘Paint a Board’ workshop! Using old surfboards sourced that would typically end up in landfill, they’ll guide you to help turn them into works of art. You’re welcome to bring your own items like drink bottles, jeans, and hats for a makeover too!

FAMILY CAMPING IS NOW SOLD OUT

Bringing the whole tribe to Splendour?

Consider family camping in The Meadow, a dedicated family friendly camping zone where you can set up your kit with your kids, surrounded by other young families.

Tucked away from the rest of the campers’, you won’t have to mingle with a bunch of youngsters dropping beats next to your tent while you’re trying to catch some zzzz’s! From privacy to play equipment, the Meadow features a campground playground, so your little ones can keep themselves occupied while you enjoy that morning cuppa. You’ll also find some handy extras in the Meadow, including kitchen facilities with a microwave and change table.
