Zulu Winter are like that clean cut, well educated girlfriend/boyfriend that are perfect to take home to your mother. The nod from your parents is like the online media buzz surrounding the band – they are perfect on paper getting hype from everyone BBC 1’s Zane Lowe to NME, but in the end do you actually like them?
Our answer is yes! We’re old enough to know better than to fall for another band that learnt to play their instruments while they recorded. While only officially forming in 2011, the members of Zulu Winter have been playing together since they were 15 and their debut album “Language” is confirmation of their talent.
The Oxfordshire boys have an ear for pop hooks but not as you would expect, drenching them in dark narrative and ghostly synths. Will Daunt’s pitch perfect croon sailing over Henry Walton’s unfurling guitars on the single ‘We Should Be Swimming’ is a clear statement: guitar bands are back. Like most dark horses, Zulu Winter will no doubt surprise you when the woollen knits come off and they hit the stage. Their atmospheric soundscape is built for festival arenas and Daunt comes alive as an engaging front man moving erratically along with the thundering tribal beats while maintaining that distinct pitch perfect voice.
See what all the hype is about and catch Zulu Winter at their Splendour In The Grass sideshows playing along side Howler.
