SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2015, THAT'S A WRAP!

Friday 31 July 2015

SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2015 THANKS YOU!

saturday_atmos_wombats_bianca holderness.jpeg

We hope you’ve all arrived home safely, no doubt your washing machine is getting a full workout.

WE WANT TO THANK YOU SPLENDID PEOPLE FOR YOUR AWESOME FORM AT THIS YEARS FESTIVAL!! Our Splendour team spend the best part of the year planning the festival, we spend one month building the show and an extra amount of effort keeping work vehicles off the grass so its nice and fresh for you to enjoy. Receiving 4 days of inclement weather and sporadic rain during the festival, well it all turned to shit didn’t it!! Our team worked exceptionally hard during the show to manage the conditions with various ground materials but it was an uphill (downhill naked mud man) battle. We have some great ideas moving forward, we’ll let you know down the road.

Anyway YOU WERE ALL INCREDIBLE!! Your resilience, your sense of community, your determination to have fun, the care you showed for each other and just generally the way you embraced it all…it absolutely blew us away.

Massive thanks, you're a pack of legends. We love you!

Jess, Paul and team Splendour xo

SPLENDOUR 2015 FINAL TIPS & INFO.

Monday 20 July 2015

Woo Hoo! SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2015 is almost upon us and we can’t wait to welcome you with open arms! The site is looking awesome, and we are busting to get our dancing shoes on.

Now before we get the party started, we ask you kindly to stop, collaborate and listen! So kick back, take a few deep breaths and please take the time to read the following information. It’s also worth reading what’s printed on the front and back of your ticket.

THE WEATHER

It’s wet up here! Pack your gumboots, warm clothes and pray for sunshine. Oh and it’s cold too! The days are set for medium to lightweight fabrics, with winter knits and jackets required for the evenings and early risers. Cloudy with a chance of ponchos and gumboots!

POLICE AND SECURITY

The festival is a large town in its own right and a town needs policing. Authorities have been working with organisers to ensure your time at the festival is safe and enjoyable. Police and security will both be present on site.

You may be searched on your way into Splendour, so don’t bring anything you shouldn’t!! Drug detection dogs will be at the festival. If you are stopped because a dog indicates you may have drugs, this gives Police ‘reasonable suspicion’ and they are within their rights to search you. If you are searched, you have rights – knowing them will empower you to navigate the process.

Police random breath testing units will also be active on local roads.

We recommend event-only patrons stay on site for a while after the main stages finish to avoid a mass exodus. Restaurants and food stalls will be open until 2am Friday to Sunday and there will be late night entertainment on offer in the Tipi Forest, Global Village, Tent Of Miracles, Miss Saigon Karaoke Bar, Smirnoff Cocktail Bar and Red Bull Music Academy.

Any persons attempting to gain entry to the festival without a valid event ticket either on foot, by private vehicle, bus or other means is considered to be trespassing and therefore breaking the law. Under the Inclosed Lands Protections Act 1901 NSW Police will be issuing on the spot fines of $350 for trespassing, and trespassers will be evicted from the North Byron Parklands site.

All persons travelling to the event via bus will be checked for a valid 2015 festival ticket or wristband prior to boarding, and will not be allowed on the bus without this.

Event-only patrons are not allowed to enter the campground. Any event-only patrons found in that area risk being evicted from the festival.

Stage diving, crowd surfing and moshing are prohibited. Those attempting such activities will be evicted. Aggressive behaviour is rare at Splendour, but anyone who does behave in a threatening or inappropriate manner towards other patrons or event staff will be removed from the festival.

FIRST AID & HEALTH

Our comprehensive health service will include on-site doctors, paramedics and a chill out area. The main Medical facility is located just inside the Main Entry gates. There will be a PATRON SAFETY HOTLINE that those at the festival can call regarding safety, medical or security matters. This number will be on display around the site.

If you require first aid or assistance please either make your way to a first aid station, speak to the nearest security guard who can make radio contact with the medical team, or call the Patron Safety Hotline.

This year beyondblue will be in attendance at the festival and will be located near the main Medical facility. If you or any of your friends notice anyone around you are distressed in anyway, please visit the beyondblue tent. To find out more about beyondblue head to their website here.

Proper footwear is required. NO FLIP FLOPS, THONGS, SINGLE or DOUBLE PLUGGERS, JANDLES, SLIPPERS or any footwear that exposes your toes!! Minor foot injuries to those with bare feet or wearing thongs take up too much of our first aid team’s time. In 2014 they saw over 2,400 people with foot injuries. BYO back-up band-aids and analgesics or you will be required to provide the medics with a gold coin donation for their provisions.

Please remember to drink lots of water throughout the day. EMPTY plastic (no glass or metal) bottles of water or soft drink can be brought into the entertainment precinct. You can get refills from water taps on site or in the bars.

A breathalyser service to allow drivers to get an indication of their blood alcohol content will be on site at the Byron Youth Services tent and Keys Please Kiosk, both located near the Main Entry gates. Don’t drive if you’re tired or intoxicated. Organise a designated driver or catch a bus instead.

RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL

The responsible service of alcohol is integral to providing an enjoyable, safe event for all patrons and staff. Liquor will not be supplied to disorderly or intoxicated patrons or to anyone who is under 18 years of age or who does not have the requisite ID.

The festival is a licensed area and you will need to show ID to purchase alcohol. Only the following forms of ID are acceptable:

  • Valid Australian Drivers Licence (i.e. not expired)
  • Government Issued Proof of Age Card
  • Passport
  • International Drivers Licence (must contain a photograph)

Please note that the following measures are necessary as part of the compliance required by the festival under liquor licensing laws:

  • No alcohol can be brought into the festival area or day carparks.
  • The campgrounds, RV Area and Campers Carpark are also a No Alcohol area.
  • All patrons are subject to bag searches upon entering the festival area, campgrounds and RV Area. Your co-operation is appreciated. Please see the full list of banned items at splendourinthegrass.com
  • Any banned items found during searches will be confiscated and not returned
  • The organiser reserves the right to refuse admission to any person who shows signs of being affected by alcohol or drugs.
  • Alcohol cannot be brought onto or consumed on buses travelling to and from the festival.
  • Any minors found in possession of alcohol will be removed from the festival and will be subject to police action, as will those who procured the alcohol for them. As per Splendour’s Youth Policy, those aged 15 or under must be accompanied at all times by a parent or responsible adult.

Don’t forget to pace yourself, especially if you’re driving. There is a large variety of non-alcoholic beverages and food options available across the festival site.

NO FIRES

Campfires are NOT permitted in the campgrounds by agreement between the festival and fire authorities. Anyone lighting a fire will be ejected from the festival. This includes fireworks, flares or fire twirling. There will be supervised communal bonfires at a few locations throughout the event area (which also has mushroom heaters).

FAMILY CAMPING

We welcome Family Camping to the Splendour family this year. If you have purchased a specific Family camping ticket and are headed to the Family Campgrounds, please follow the ‘Campers’ vehicle signs, and look for the Family Camping directing you to this area.

CAR PASSES

An appropriate vehicle pass is required for all private vehicles parking at North Byron Parklands. You will need to pre-purchase the appropriate vehicle pass, and you can now pre-purchase a vehicle pass up until midnight the day before the entry day of the pass.

If you arrive without the appropriate pre-purchased vehicle pass, penalty fees will apply:

  • CAMPERS CAR PASS - $60 per vehicle payable upon entry
  • RV PARKING PASS - $100 per vehicle
  • DAY PARKING PASS - $60 per day per vehicle payable upon entry

Campers Car Pass and Day Parking Pass $30 redemption vouchers for car-pooling DO NOT apply to those who buy car passes upon entry.

Those of you who did the right thing and pre-purchased your car pass (not RV’s) remember that you can qualify for a $30 REDEMPTION VOUCHER of your vehicle pass if:

DAY PARKING PASS – there are4 or more ticketholders in your vehicle when you arrive in the carpark on the day that your Day Parking Pass is valid.

CAMPERS CAR PASS - 3 or more ticketholders in your vehicle when you arrive in the Campers Carpark.

Further details about car passes here.

Please place your VEHICLE PASS on the driver’s side dashboard so our staff can see it as you enter North Byron Parklands and proceed to the relevant car parking area where it will be scanned. Please note Passbook cannot be used for VEHICLE PASSES as we need to sight and scan a printed copy of your vehicle pass on approach.

BUS TRAVEL

Splendour has an extensive festival bus network in operation during the event. Fares and schedules can be found here.

ROAD SAFETY

Please drive carefully both to and within North Byron Parklands. Please observe internal speed limits. On the highway, take regular breaks. Take care on local roads. Do not enter or leave the venue on foot. Those riding pushbikes should leave them in the bike parking area located in the northern carpark and proceed on foot to and from the festival entry.

RESPECT OUR NEIGHBOURS

Splendour provides a huge economic and cultural boost to the Byron and Tweed Shires, but as responsible members of this community we also need to mitigate the impacts of the event on the local area. Please show some consideration by following these tips:

  • Respect the local community and environment.
  • Do not enter or attempt to camp in the nearby nature reserve. Penalties apply.
  • Do not camp in or around your vehicle on nearby roadsides, parking lots etc. Council rangers will be on the lookout for illegal camping or people sleeping in cars. Maximum penalty exceeds $1,000.
  • Do NOT park on nearby roadsides. Fines apply for illegal parking.
  • If walking in residential areas, please keep the noise down.
  • Use your accommodation as a place to sleep, NOT to party. Your neighbours need to rest.
  • Do not litter – use the bins provided or hold onto it until you find a bin.
  • Please use public toilets. When travelling to and from the festival, plan ahead so you don’t get caught short.
  • Avoid the centre of Byron Bay late at night – there isn’t much open, there is no public transport (other than festival buses) and taxis are in short supply.

GENERAL TIPS

  • Please bring VALID photo ID that corresponds with the name and date of birth printed on your ticket as both must be presented for admission.
  • Prepare to be searched upon entry (including bags and camping equipment). Unfortunately we need to do this and your co-operation is appreciated. Please see these lists of items banned in the campground and inside the event area.
  • Campers remember you’re not able to park your car next to your tent Please follow the directions of our staff to the Campers Carpark area.
  • NO tents allowed in the RV AREA. This area is for vehicles designed for sleeping in such as vans, campervans, caravans, camper trailers etc.
  • Stage diving, crowd surfing and moshing are prohibited.  Those attempting such activities risk being evicted.
  • You are expected to wear your event wristband for the entire festival. This is your pass in and out of the festival. Any persons found not wearing a valid wristband will be evicted from the event.
  • Patrons must not damage flora and fauna or enter any on-site bodies of water.
  • BIN IT! Help keep your festival litter free. Do not drop cigarette butts on the ground.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CAMPERS

Friday 17 July 2015

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CAMPERS

Hey there happy campers!

HOT DAMN! Splendour 2015 is almost upon us. North Byron Parklands is looking magnificent, the stages and big tops are being erected and before you know it you’ll be here, pimping out your Splendour 2015 digs!

So before you start to pack your kit, please read through our handy tips to make your Splendour…splendid!

Please also read the information on the front and rear of your camping ticket. Be prepared!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The Splendour campground at North Byron Parklands opens at 10am on Wednesday 22 July – please do not arrive before this time.

On Wednesday campers can arrive between 10am-12midnight and from Thursday between 7am-12midnight.

All campers must depart by 5pm Monday 27 July.

Don’t forget your Camping Ticket! It’s separate to your festival entry ticket. Every person who wants to stay in the campgrounds or in the RV Area MUST have a Camping Ticket as well as photo ID matching the name and date of birth printed on the ticket.

And if you’re driving, you MUST pre purchase the appropriate vehicle pass for the day you intend to arrive. You will need to print your vehicle pass and have this clearly displayed on the driver’s side dashboard of your vehicle as you arrive at North Byron Parklands. Please note Passbook or electronic files CANNOT be used for vehicle passes, as we need the “visual” of the PDF printout on approach.

Please car pool where possible. Besides, if you arrive with 3 or more people holding valid un-scanned event and camping tickets you’ll get a voucher giving you a $30 cash rebate to claim at the festival against the cost of your Campers Car Pass. RV Parking Passes do not qualify for this refund.

Large camping setups are not permitted. No couches or other large items allowed!! Keep it light and you’ll be alright.

splendour_camping_2014.jpg

CAMPGROUND PARKING

The campers carpark is located beside the campgrounds. Please follow internal signage and the directions of staff to your parking spot. After parking, campers will need to walk their gear to the entry gates, so make sure you bring only what you need. Once you’re through the gates jump on one of our trailer rides or use the convenient wheelbarrows to get to your campsite.

RV AREA

For those bringing vans, campervans, caravans, camper-trailers, station wagons and other vehicles designed for sleeping in, the RV Area is the place for you. This space is for vehicles that are designed for sleeping in. Tents are not allowed in the RV Area, only vehicles.

The RV Area and the campgrounds are next to each other, and you can walk between the two areas freely and at all hours. The campground is full of tents and no vehicles. All vehicles entering the RV Area will be thoroughly searched by our licensed security team, so check the website for banned items.

ARRIVING AND DEPARTING

Expect some delays when arriving and departing, as a lot of vehicles will be trying to get in and out of the campers carpark and RV Area at the same time. Please be patient. We will all be working to get you in and out as safely and efficiently as possible.

On Monday, you’re welcome to stay and sleep in, eat, drink coffee, reminisce over your Insta feed…just don’t wait in your car. If you have an early flight or need to get to work, be prepared to be an early riser.

Exit from the campers carpark and RV Area on Sunday night will be restricted between 11:30pm – 2:00am to allow for day patrons and buses to leave the site.

VEHICLES CANNOT BE MOVED

Once parked in the campers carpark or RV Area, your vehicle cannot be moved again until you depart the festival. You can come and go to your car as often as necessary to charge phones, store valuables or use the rear-view mirror for make-up application. If you leave the site in your car, security will assume you are going home and will remove your wristband, so catch a bus to where you’re going.

SHUTTLE BUSES

There will be a number of festival bus services operating between the festival and surrounding areas, including frequent shuttle services to Brunswick Heads and Byron Bay from Wednesday for campers staying on site. Check the Splendour website here for the latest info.

WATER USAGE

When you get to the show you’ll notice our ah-freakin-mazing toilets and showers! Purpose built, the toilets are waterless and composting – so no butts, pads, make-up or plastics please. The showers are toasty warm, however please consider others and keep the showers brief.

FOOD AND SUPPLIES

There will be a number of awesome food options available 24 hours a day in the campground from Wednesday through to Monday. If you need other supplies, please shop for them before you arrive or you can hit up the General Store located within the campgrounds which will be stocked with ice, soft drinks, juice, chips, chocolate, water, bread, milk, bacon, eggs, breakfast cereal, toothpaste, shampoo, enviro-bags, condoms, tampons, clothes pegs, headache pills, camping gear and more. There is another General Store located in the festival area.

PATRON SAFETY HOTLINE

There will be a Patron Safety Hotline that you can call regarding safety, medical or security matters. This number will be on display around the campground. First Aid services will also be available.

While at North Byron Parklands, please go to your closest Camp Marshal if you have any questions or concerns.

ENVIRONMENTAL MATTERS

We’re all pretty excited about our beautiful venue which just keeps getting better and better each year.  In keeping with our long-term vision we have a bunch of environmental programs and procedures in place to minimise our environmental impact. In BIG news, we’re getting our waste sorted onsite, and building an onsite waste sorting facility with the aim to separate general waste or waste going to landfill and recyclable materials.

So here’s how you can help…When you arrive at the campgrounds, you will be provided with general waste bags, recycling bags and information on our waste sorting system. There will be regular daily rubbish collections where we come to you and take your full bags away, and drop points throughout the campgrounds where you can leave your bags for us to collect, and grab some more bags.

Most importantly, please do not litter under any circumstances. No, no, no!

So please help us get waste sorted!

Oh, and be sure to show our Green Chiefs and Green Team members some love as they move through the campground helping to keep our waste systems under control. Let’s leave the site for our future generations green with envy!

CAMP LITTLE FOOT(PRINT)

Your vibe attracts your tribe! Camp Little Foot(print) is back, encouraging festivalgoers to adopt and embrace a more sustainable approach to their festival experience.  For those of you who seek to leave as little impact as possible, here’s your chance to prove it!  Subscribe to our criteria for Camp Little Foot(print) and you can bask in the benefits of a) great campsite location b) positively enlightened vibe c) being surrounded by karma max, like-minded people! To register your interest email enviro@splendourinthegrass.com

FOOD AT SPLENDOUR 2015 + HAIR & BEAUTY & MORE...

Friday 10 July 2015

THE FOOD AT SPLENDOUR 2015

Loosen your belt, rub your belly and prepare to dig in!  The Splendour food menu reads like an international party card, suits every taste and is just steps away from wherever you are right now… Vego, GF, paleo, dairy free, vegan, raw, just a little peckish, or extremely carnivorous – whatever you want – just start eating.

TRUCK STOP

Truck Stop it right now! Rolling into town is a fleet of the east coast’s premier food vans representing a new generation of dining. These hand picked curated food-truckers have everything covered from mac ‘n’ cheese burgers to salads and fruit smoothies. The 2015 line-up features both delicious new offerings and old favourites – including winners of the 2014 ‘Best In Show’ award, Veggie Patch Van, who’ll be returning with their menu of veg and vegan delights. More here...

Open 9am – midnight Thursday. 9am – 2am Friday Saturday, Sunday.

truckstop.jpg

SPLENDID FOOD HALLS

All around the Splendour site you’ll find super deluxe food halls with all of the trimmings. Sit down, relax and focus on what’s important – food!  There are three food halls this year: one on either side of the Mix-Up tent and one in the middle of the site near the General Store.  Start looking forward to the quintessential festival experience – burgers, pizza, gozleme, coffee, Byron Bay Pies, German sausages, hot chips, churros and more.

Open 9am – midnight Thursday. 9am – 2am Friday Saturday, Sunday.

HAWKERS MARKETS

It’s a simple equation:  Chinatown + Splendour = DELISH.  If you’re hanging at our awesome Miss Saigon Bar then you’ll find yourself wedged between some of the tastiest Asian treats Splendour has to offer.  Dumplings, Thai noodles, sushi and more.

Open 9am – midnight Thursday. 9am – 2am Friday Saturday, Sunday.

CAMPGROUNDS

But first, coffee!  Follow your nose to the food pod closest to your tent to start your day off right.  It’s all there just waiting for you – bacon, eggs, muesli, and of course the all-important coffee.  And at the end of a hard day of Splendouring, make a quick pit stop and line your tummy with pizza, falafels, burgers and bacon before you hit the hay.  There are two food pods in the campgrounds.

Open from Wednesday morning until Monday arvo.

GRILL'D

Grill’d are returning to Splendour this year, armed with their awesome burgers that not only taste good, but do you good too. They’re made with love from only the freshest ingredients so be sure to swing by their Burger Park and grab a burger or two (cause let’s face it, festival’ing can be hungry work!). The ‘Splendour Burger’ made with lean chicken breast, avocado, crispy trim bacon, golden pineapple, salad, relish and sweet chilli mayo is our pick! Grilling breakfast, lunch & dinner.

The iconic bubbles is once again partnering with Splendour in the Grass to make the festival a little more lush. Surrender to cosy knits, cool beats and a weekend of beautiful moments. Sip Chandon at the Moroccan Wine Bar or join a Chandon masterclass, running twice daily at 1pm and 3pm throughout the festival in the Moët & Chandon bar.

We are also thrilled to offer the Brillat Savarin cheese board carefully selected by world-renowned cheese connoisseur Will Studd. This decadent triple-cream cheese is the perfect accompaniment for Moët champagne.
