Accommodation

Where do I find local accommodation info?

Beautiful Brunswick Heads and Mullbumbimby are the closest accommodation centres to Parklands, although Byron Bay has a much wider range of options. The Tweed Coast also has some good accommodation options available. Please head over to our Accommodation pages for more info.

Do I need a Splendour camping ticket to book Tent City, Tepeelove, Byron Bay Camping Co. or Flash Camp?

Yep, you sure do. In order to book with Tent City, Tepeelove, Byron Bay Camping Co. or Flash Camp you MUST have already purchased a Camping ticket. Then you can book - at your own additional expense - the services provided by Tent City, Tepeelove, Byron Bay Camping Co. or Flash Camp who will erect your tent or tepee so it is ready and waiting for you when you arrive for Splendour. How good is that?!

All ages info

Is Splendour all ages?

It sure is, but anyone aged 15 or under going to Splendour will need to be accompanied in and around the festival precinct by a parent or responsible adult. This is unless they are camping on site, in which case anyone under 18 must have a parent or responsible adult guardian in their camping group.

More information can be found here: Youth Policy.

Are under 18s allowed into bars or licensed areas?

NO, most definitely not. Any minors found in these areas will be evicted from Splendour and may face prosecution. This includes minors in the company of responsible adults - those aged under 18 cannot enter such areas even if they are with a parent or other adult.

Are kids aged 11 and under still allowed in free?

Yep. Please bring some proof of age when they come to the festival. They will also need to be in the company of a parent or adult guardian at all times.

What age does a 'responsible adult' have to be?

Technically, an adult is anyone aged over 18. However, it is not our preference that an 18 year old should be responsible for minors in and around the festival or campground (especially the latter). Anyone who is considering being the nominated adult in such circumstances should consider this responsibility very carefully as they will be responsible for the behaviour of all minors in their care. They will not be able to enter bars or licensed areas (including entertainment venues such as the Cocktail Bar, the Wine Bar or any other bar area) with minors. There are strict laws concerning consumption of alcohol by minors and those caught doing so - or supplying alcohol to minors - will face police action and will be evicted from the Splendour.

At the festival

What forms of photo ID will I need to get into Splendour?

You will need the valid identification listed below to allow you entry into Splendour and your ID will need to match the details on your ticket. The Splendour entertainment precinct is a licensed area and as such, you will be required to show ID to purchase alcohol. Splendour will only accept the following forms of Identification:

  • Current valid Australian driver's license (with photo)
  • Current Passport
  • Government Issued Proof of Age Card
  • Victorian Keypass
  • International Driver’s License (must contain a photograph)

For over 18s, STUDENT ID CARDS DO NOT QUALIFY NOR DO BILLS OR LETTERS.

If you are unable to present any of the accepted forms of photo ID, you will be treated as a minor and excluded from all bar service and bar areas.

For under 18s who don’t have a driver's license or a current, valid passport, we will also accept a copy of your birth certificate PLUS one of the following:

  • Student ID Card
  • Bus Pass
  • Bank Account Statement in your name

Please note that anyone aged 15 or under attending Splendour In the Grass MUST be accompanied at all times by a parent or adult guardian. Children aged 11 years and under get in free.

For more information please read the Ticket Terms & Conditions ; Conditions and our Youth Policy.

Will I have mobile phone reception at Splendour?

Look out for the COW’S! Each mobile phone company traditionally provides a Cell on Wheels temporary tower (otherwise known as a COW) to expand their network coverage and capacity during big events like Splendour.

IMPORTANT! Please make sure you PRINT YOUR EVENT TICKET AND BRING IT WITH YOU to the venue. Do not rely on mobile coverage at the show. And while you’re at the printer your Vehicle Pass will also need to be printed and placed on the dashboard of your vehicle on the drivers’ side. Your Vehicle Pass will be emailed to you as an electronic ticket so please keep that printer fired up.

What items are not allowed in the festival area?

Seriously, people sometimes bring the strangest things to Splendour, most of which end up being whipped away by security. Think ahead and before you pack your oversize novelty item, surfboard (for crowd surfing), or random stuff on large sticks, please check out our very detailed list of our banned items here: Banned Items

We need to let you know that it may not be possible to return any confiscated items so your best bet is not to bring them in the first instance.

What items are not allowed in the campground area?

Fireworks, flares, fire twirling apparatus e.g. sticks & balls etc, alcohol, illegal drugs, couches, weapons of any kind, any other items considered illegal or dangerous and strictly no animals. All gas equipment must have a current stamp or tag of compliance. Please use your common sense and check through the full list of Banned Items

Please be aware that it may not be possible to return any confiscated items therefore please make sure you don’t bring them to Splendour.

It's winter but it's also Byron Bay. What should I pack for Splendour?

It’s complicated. Like any coastal location the weather can be somewhat un-predictable. We can have gorgeous, warm sunny days where all you’ll need is a t-shirt, jeans, sunhat and sunscreen. But at night and in the mornings the winter chill can hit. So to maximize happiness and comfort, go for style and substance. Prepare for the best of both worlds - beanies, warm jackets, doonas, cosy socks and something weather proof. A trusty pair of gumboots will never go astray either.

Will there be Police sniffer dogs at Splendour this year?

There will always be a Police presence at Splendour and this year is no exception. You can also expect that Police drug detection dogs will be in attendance too. You know the drill and the consequences but it’s worth reminding everyone again.

So consider yourself officially warned. Possession, sale or use of illegal drugs or illicit substances is strictly prohibited. Any persons found with them in their possession will be removed from Parklands and subject to police action. Police will be out and about on the streets, conducting roadside breath-testing and drug-testing on nearby roads too so plan ahead, designate your driver and never, ever, ever drink and drive.

Is there somewhere to charge my phone at Splendour?

Yep. There will be mobile phone charging lockers available via chargespot.com.au

Buses

Will airport shuttles service North Byron Parklands?

As a major tourist centre, Byron Bay is serviced by numerous airport shuttle services. These operate from the Ballina Byron Gateway Airport, Gold Coast Airport and Brisbane Airport and most of these airports have good online booking facilities. Please check to see if they list Splendour or Parklands as a drop-off/pickup point. We strongly recommend booking your shuttle in advance as these services are very popular.

See a list of operators on our GETTING THERE page here.

What buses will Splendour run in 2017?

There will be a number of festival bus services operating between the festival and surrounding areas, including frequent shuttle services to Ocean Shores, Brunswick Heads and Byron Bay from Wednesday for campers staying on site.

Further details and bus schedules can be found here.

Camping info

What is Camp Little Foot(print)?

Camp Little Foot(print) is an area located within the general campgrounds dedicated to the ‘Leave No Trace’ philosophy. For access to Camp Little Foot(print), along with a Camping Ticket, you must have purchased a Carbon Offset Ticket (COT) with your Event Ticket, and if you are driving your vehicle to the event, you must arrive with 3 or more passengers, and qualify for the vehicle pass refund system.

What is Family Camping?

A Family Camping Ticket provides access for each ticket holder to The Meadow, a family friendly camping area within the general campgrounds. Children aged 11 and under are admitted free, and must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian at all times whilst at the festival or campgrounds.

Every person staying at the Family Campground requires a 2017 Family Camping Ticket per person. Family Camping Tickets are one ticket per person for those aged 12 or older.

Family Campground ticket holders wishing to park their vehicle onsite will need to pre-purchase a vehicle pass. Standby for more info on vehicle passes!

See more information over at Camping Info.

Is the Camping Ticket per campsite or per person?

It's per person, i.e. everyone who is camping needs a ticket.

Do I need a vehicle pass to park my car at North Byron Parklands?

Yes, you will need to pre-purchase a vehicle pass if you intend to park your car at North Byron Parklands .For more info visit the Vehicle Passes page here

Where do I find info on other campgrounds in the area?

There is loads of info online for varying types of accommodation in the Byron area, but our Other Campgrounds page is a good starting point. Apart from Byron's Bay's own campgrounds, there are also great campgrounds at Brunswick Heads in the north and in the south at Broken Head, Lennox Head and Ballina. You can also check out our Accommodation page for links to websites offering other styles of accommodation.

Can I 'upgrade' or exchange my Event-only ticket for an Event and a Camping ticket?

NO! Camping tickets are separate to an Event Ticket. Camping tickets can be purchased in addition to an Event Ticket. You can purchase a Camping Ticket at a later date, subject to availability, via the Official Splendour Resale facility. Please note, we are unable to predict how many tickets will be returned, or when tickets may be available during the resale period.

Those intending to offer their unwanted event and/or camping tickets for SALE may do so from 9:00AM AEST FRIDAY 5 MAY 2017. This Resale Facility will allow you to offer your tickets for sale through moshtix, giving you the opportunity to get your money back (minus $20 resale administration fee & minus original booking & transaction fees).

Those wanting to BUY a ticket have the opportunity to do so, subject to availability, from 9:00AM AEST MONDAY 8 MAY 2017 AT MOSHTIX.COM.AU. Tickets offered for resale will be made available at the regular, advertised price*.

The purchaser can buy tickets for up to 4 people in your preferred selection of event tickets, camping tickets and carbon offset options.

It is IMPORTANT to make sure you have the correct name and date of birth for each person as these details are printed onto their ticket. You will also require the email address and mobile contact details for each ticket holder. This will then allow ticketholders to be eligible to receive information for a Splendour 2017 ticket presale offer. Please ensure you have these details handy when purchasing tickets.

*Resale administration and booking fees apply.

How much space do we get for our campsite and can we pick our own spot?

Your allocated space will be big enough for your tent and some outdoor play area or your car or your tent, but you will be getting cosy with your neighbours! Overly elaborate campsites are discouraged, so you will be asked to downsize if you arrive with enough gear to re-create your lounge room. Keep it simple. The less you bring, the less you have to take away with you.

You won't be able to choose your own camping spot. When you arrive at the campgrounds our friendly Camping Marshals will show you where to set up camp. Please remember that space is tight in the campgrounds so please don’t bring the kitchen sink.

Are there powered sites and can I bring my own generator?

None of the Splendour campsites are powered.

You can bring your own generator, BUT we have a strict noise curfew between 12:00am and 8:00am in the campgrounds and your generator must be turned off between these hours.Or else!

When can I arrive at Splendour to set up my campsite?

You can arrive after 10:00am on Wednesday 19 July. However please do not arrive between 10:00pm-7:00am as we will not have staff available to admit you to the campgrounds and campers car parks during those hours.

If we have our friends’ camping tickets, can we reserve a spot for them next to us?

Nope. To camp together you must arrive together. Besides, they’re not going to be able to get into the campground without their tickets. So plan to arrive as a group if you’re keen to camp together. The friends that stick together, camp together!

My friends have a different day on their vehicle pass, is there any way we can camp together?

No, you must arrive together. To do this you’ll need to have a vehicle pass for the same day for each car in your group. Organise with your friends when you want to arrive before vehicle passes go on sale so you all purchase vehicle passes for the same day. More on Vehicle Passes here.

I don’t have a camping ticket but why can’t I stay with my friends? It’s only one more person?

Sorry, but this one is non-negotiable. Every year loads of people hassle us about being "just one more person". But the reality is the campground has a set capacity that we legally need to stick to, so once camping tickets sell out we simply cannot put anyone else in there.

Can my non-camping friends visit me in the campground?

Sorry, no. Only those with Camping tickets or Camping wristbands are allowed in the campground. Anyone found in the campgrounds without the correct wristband will have their event wristband confiscated and will be ejected from the festival.

We only want to camp one night – is it still the same price?

Yes. There is only one price for the camping tickets.

Can under 15's and under 18’s camp together as a group?

No, if your group contains any under 18s there must be at least one parent or responsible adult guardian for every 3 minors. While technically an adult is anyone aged over 18, it is not our preference that an 18 year old should be responsible for minors. Anyone considering nominating themselves as the responsible adult in their group should consider this responsibility very carefully. The festival may require both adult and minor/s to sign an "Accompanied Minor Form" on arrival at the festival.
More information regarding under 18s patrons can be found in our Youth Policy.

What’s the security like in the camping area?

Apart from on-site Camping Marshals, there will also be security personnel near the camping areas. The marshals' campsite for each area is marked with large signs. All queries and concerns should be directed to your marshals.

Leave valuables in the boot of your car or deep in your pockets or even better, don’t bring them at all. Despite the best efforts of our staff and security personnel there are still scumbags who steal other people's belongings.

Is it safe to leave my valuables in my tent?

No. Despite the best efforts of our staff and security personnel there are still scumbags who steal other people's belongings. Leave valuables in the boot of your car or deep in your pockets or even better, don’t bring them at all. Alternatively, we will have lockers on site, which can be booked beforehand, visit lockerbox.net.au for more info. There will also be mobile phone charging lockers via chargespot.com.au

Can I bring alcohol and / or fireworks into the campgrounds?

NO! NO! NO!...... and just for extra clarity NO! to both. Alcohol in the campgrounds is strictly prohibited.

And if you ignite fireworks or flares you will be removed from the site and may be the subject of police action, which nobody wants.

No fireworks, flares or bungers ok!?

Can I bring my ghetto blaster or crank up my megawatt subs in my car?

Please don't, as your fellow campers may not agree with your taste when it comes to music. Music abounds at Splendour so please leave the O.T.T sound system at home and travel light.

Will there be toilets and showers in the campgrounds?

Yep and they’re award winning too! Please be kind to the environment when using our excellent facilities as there is no permanent water supply to the site. This means all water has to be purchased and transported on and off site. Parklands has some of the finest, environmentally friendly compostable toilets and low-flow gas fired showers that have been purpose built just for you!

It's winter and it's cold. Can we have a fire at our campsite?

Patrons are not permitted to have campfires or fires of any kind at Parklands campgrounds, although gas stoves and gas cookers are ok. If you light a fire you will be removed from the site and may be the subject of police action. Which would be a huge bummer. So rug up instead.

Carbon offset option

What is the Carbon Offset Option and how does it work?

A Carbon Offset option is an opportunity to offset all, or part of, an individuals’ travel to the event. For the past 12 years, in partnership with The South Pole Group (formerly known as Climate Friendly), Splendour in the Grass has provided such an opportunity for festival patrons. For just $3 over the regular event ticket price most or all of your travel emissions are completely offset (depending on how far you travel to get to the festival).

The money raised from carbon offset option sales is invested via The South Pole Group who offset your individual carbon emissions by funding renewable energy and carbon farming projects that save and capture the same amount of greenhouse gas as you emit. All of The South Pole Group's projects are independently verified and meet the highest global accreditation standards including Australian GreenPower.

Why does Splendour in the Grass use the South Pole Group to offset emissions?

The South Pole Group (formerly known as Climate Friendly) has been ranked the Number One carbon offset company in Australia ('Carbon Offset Watch' report 2008), by the Total Environment Centre, Choice Magazine and the Institute for Sustainable Futures. The ‘Carbon Offset Watch’ report is an independent survey that helps people distinguish the extent to which carbon offset providers are achieving real action to tackle climate change.

What's Splendour's Carbon Plan for 2017?

This year, in addition to providing a Carbon Offset Option program Splendour is committing to a local tree planting initiative. In an effort to increase the ecological capacity of our local area, reduce habitat fragmentation and, of course, sequester carbon, Splendour is committing to planting approximately 2000 native trees at Parklands! If you would like to get involved be sure to keep an eye out on the enviro section of the website.

What else can I do to look after the Splendour environment?

Leave no tent behind! Okay, it sounds bleeding obvious but we need our audience, you, to do the obvious things to keep our beautiful Parklands home in sparkling condition. Each year, some people make the unfathomable choice to leave their tents and other rubbish behind. This makes us really sad as it's wasteful and creates extra, unnecessary toil for our over-worked clean up crew.

Don’t litter, use the garbage sorting stations correctly, and please, please, please don’t leave your tents, gumboots, ponchos, couches or anything you’ve bought into Splendour behind when it’s over. Apart from the fact that it’s a bad look, it takes an army of cleaners to pick up and sort through these oversized items. You have a choice. So aim to leave zero trace at your campsite and watch your neighbours follow suit. Spread the environmental good vibes and lead by example!

Where can I find out more about Splendour's environmental initiatives?

Have a read of our Environmental Initiatives section to learn more.

What is a 'Lot'?

A 'Lot' is just Auction jargon for the item being sold, in this case a Splendour 2017 Gold Pass.

Kids & child minding

Are there any kids entertainment facilities or child-minding services available on site?

Yes, Little Splendour (formerly known as Kidz Klub) will include baby change facilities, an art space, workshops, sports and games area, clowns and entertainers, face painters, sand pit, chill out zone, jumping castle, dressup, music performances and much more. Kids love it and parents love it even more!

Are there any age restrictions?

The festival is all-ages, but anyone aged 15 or under MUST be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian at all times.

Can I bring a stroller/pram?

Yes but be mindful of bumpy terrain.

Do kids get in free or is there a discount for kids?

Kids get into Splendour for free if they’re aged 11 and under. Anyone over that age needs to purchase a ticket. Parents/guardians will need to provide proof of age for those aged 11 or thereabouts who may be mistaken for 12 or 13...or 14. Those aged 12 or over must buy a ticket, and of course be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian at all times.

We have to adhere to a legal capacity limit and every body on the site (even if they're only small-ish bodies) counts towards that total.

Local residents

How can I be respectful to our local neighbours and townships?

Parklands is surrounded by townships with residents and small business most of whom graciously welcome you with open arms. Even though you probably won’t leave the site often, if you do, remember to be cool! Be sure to observe traffic plans and don’t speed through neighbourhoods. Please don’t litter or pee in people’s front yards hoping you won’t get caught. If you’ve decided to set up camp illegally on the street the Byron Shire Council Rangers will find you (and slap you with a sizeable fine for your trouble). Our neighbours want you to have a good, safe time (and so do we) so be sure to check your head whenever you leave Parklands.

What plans will you have in place during the event if I want to call regarding noise, traffic, litter or patron behaviour?

We will have a Community Hotline that will be advertised in local papers and on flyers letter-dropped throughout the area. Calls to this number will be answered by trained Hotline operators who will contact our ECC (Event Control Centre) which will house festival staff and representatives from key stakeholders such as the Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance, Medical Personnel etc. This allows any calls to be handled by the appropriate service in a prompt and coordinated manner. A mobile Community Response Team will also be out and about on local streets ready to respond to calls regarding litter, parking and illegal camping.

What measures have you taken to reduce traffic?

As a way to promote car-pooling (and fewer cars) and public transport, all vehicles driving to the site must first purchase the appropriate car pass. In the case of campers, quotas will be applied to the quantity of Campers Car Passes available each day as a way of managing the number of vehicles allowed to enter the property in a given time period. Similarly, those wanting to use the venue Car Park will need to pre-purchase a Day Parking Pass.

In both cases, a $30 redemption voucher will be offered if a vehicle contains 3 or more occupants (in the case of Campers) or 4 occupants (in the case of Day Parking). Furthermore, campers have been told that once their vehicle is parked in the Campers Car Park, it cannot be moved again until they depart the festival. This will prevent unnecessary vehicle movements in and around the venue. Shuttle buses will be available for campers to travel to Ocean Shores, Brunswick Heads and Byron Bay. A well-stocked General Store on site will reduce the need for campers to travel off-site for supplies.

I have to drive past the site each day. What times should I avoid?

Please note vehicles entering the site must pre-purchase a car pass nominating their day of arrival. The quantity of car passes for sale each day is capped to control the number of vehicles entering the site each day (most importantly for prime camper arrival times on Wed, Thurs, Fri). Our first campers will start arriving at 10:00am, Wed 19 July. On Thursday and Friday campers can arrive from 7:00am through to 10pm. Those staying off site can access the Day Car Park from 10:00am Friday to Sunday. Main stages close by midnight Thursday to Sunday so departing traffic will be busy around then, although we do keep some areas on site open to 2:00am Fri to Sun to assist in a staggered departure from the site each night.

Will the music go all night?

Definitely not. The main stages will finish by midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Secondary stages and eateries etc can stay open until 2:00am Fri - Sun. On Thursday, some secondary stages will be open but will close by midnight.

I'm a resident being genuinely affected by noise. What do I do if I want to make a noise complaint?

If you’re a resident and you’re genuinely being bothered by noise, please call the Community Hotline. Calls to the Community Hotline will first be logged with caller details, complaint and location. This info will then be passed onto acoustic consultants out in the surrounding area who will attend the location to take readings. The sound engineer then has a direct line to the Event Manager who in turn has direct communication with stage managers on site. Should one of the stages be identified as the source of sound exceeding approved levels, the sound engineer will be ordered to reduce the volume or offending frequency until the acoustic consultant confirms to both the festival and the resident that noise levels comply. Please be advised the Community Hotline number will be published closer to the event and is only operational during event dates. All calls to the Community Hotline are recorded.

Can we get free tickets because we live close to the venue?

Parklands has agreements with immediate neighbours and a community standard which the events follow that sees tickets offered to residents along certain defined adjoining roads to the venue. The complimentary ticket zone does not extend to localities such as Crabbes Creek, The Pocket, Billinudgel, South Golden Beach, Fern Beach, North Ocean Shores, Ocean Shores.

Performing

I'm in a Byron based band. Is there an application form for bands to play Splendour?

No! All Splendour artists are hand-picked by the event producers.

However, there is an opportunity via triple j Unearthed. As is tradition, triple j Unearthed is giving one Australian act the opportunity to open up the 2017 Splendour in the Grass mainstage! They’ll fly one winner from anywhere in Australia to SITG, put you up in VIP camping, and the honour of following in the footsteps of previous Splendour comp winners like Alex Lahey, Tired Lion, Airling, and Kingswood. All you have to do to be in the running is to have your music up on Unearthed by June 11th. It's as simple as that!

They’re also going to select one band from the local government areas of Byron, Ballina, Lismore, and Tweed (Unearthed Region: North Coast, NSW) to play on the bill! So, if you're a local act, get keen.

Your moshtix account will still function correctly even if it's linked to your old email address, however it is important that you change your email address before you buy your tickets and they are sent!

The best way to contact moshtix is by submitting a request via tixsupport.moshtix.com.au and one of the lovely moshtix ticketing support team will respond to your query as quickly as possible.

Student info requests

I'm a student wanting info on the Festival for my project, essay or study purpose. Can you answer my questions?

Afraid not. We get loads of such requests and we simply don't have the time or resources to answer each and every query, all of which differ depending upon the course of study or particular project or assignment being undertaken.

Are event and camping tickets separate tickets?

Yes they are. You will need a Camping Ticket to stay at North Byron Parklands. You will need an Event Ticket to enter the festival.

If I can’t make it, can I get a refund or sell my tickets to someone else?

There are no refunds on tickets except as required by the Live Performance Australia Ticketing Code of Practice. Incorrect purchases DO NOT qualify for a refund.

What do I do if I put the wrong date of birth or spelling of a name on a ticket?

Submit a help request via tixsupport.moshtix.com.au with the details of the correction you'd like to make. Include as much information about your order as possible, including your username, order ID number and correct details and clearly request the change you'd like made. Please note this is only for minor corrections - misspelt names or slightly incorrect dates of birth. It does not refer to changing full names and/or date of birth details of a ticket.

Can I use Splendour's Facebook to try to buy or sell a ticket?

NO! Any posts on our Facebook about buying and selling tickets will be removed. Names and date of birth details on tickets cannot be changed anyway. Leave Facebook and other social media platforms out of the equation when buying or re-selling Splendour tix and go through the official channels.

Splendour’s Resale facility is the ONLY place where you can purchase legit tickets for Splendour in the Grass 2017.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY TICKETS FROM FACEBOOK, ONLINE TRADING SITES OR TICKETING WEBSITES! This will only end in tears!  Splendour tickets include the name and date of birth of the purchaser. This is checked against your ID at the festival gates. There is NO other facility in place that allows a ticketholder to change the name and date of birth on a ticket and transfer it to another person. Leave Facebook and other social media platforms out of the equation when buying or reselling Splendour tix and go through the Official Splendour Resale facility at moshtix only. Facebook will still be your friend.

Why did I have to supply my name and date of birth?

It’s an anti-scalping measure we introduced in 2006. All tickets have the attendee’s name and date of birth printed on them and then the ticket-holder has to provide matching ID to enter the festival.

What if I lose my ID before the festival?

Get it replaced ASAP. You must have valid ID to enter the festival. This isn’t just a ticketing requirement, it’s a legal requirement. Even with a valid ticket, you will not be admitted without ID. Please be advised that Splendour is an ALL AGES EVENT. However a valid ID will be required for everyone.

A valid ID is a current photo driver's license, Proof of Age Card or a current, valid passport. For over 18s, student ID cards do not qualify, nor do household bills or letters. For under 18s who don’t have a driver's license or a current, valid passport we will also accept a copy of your birth certificate PLUS one of the following: a student ID card; a bus pass; a bank account statement in your name.

What if I think someone has a copy of my ticket?

At the event, we will be scanning the barcode on every ticket at the gates. Our scanner will display the name on the ticket; so your ID, our scanner and the ticket must all match. Rest assured, any impostor will be stopped at the gates! However, if you are concerned this has happened before the event, you can get your original barcode cancelled and a new one re-issued. For any ticketing queries, please submit a request via tixsupport.moshtix.com.au.

Are wristbands exchangeable, i.e. can I pass mine onto my friend if I don’t want to stay?

No, once your wristband is on, it should not be removed for the duration of the event. Event staff will be checking wristbands over the weekend to check for breakages, stretching etc.

I didn't buy a ticket and plan to fence jump my way in. What happens if I get caught?

As sure as the sun will rise, you WILL get caught.

Any persons attempting to gain entry to Splendour without a valid event ticket either on foot, by private vehicle, bus or other means is considered to be trespassing and therefore breaking the law.

Under the Inclosed Lands Protections Act 1901, NSW Police will be issuing on the spot maximum penalty fines for trespassing, and trespassers will be evicted from the Parklands site. All persons travelling to the event via bus will be checked for a valid 2017 event ticket or wristband prior to boarding, and will not be allowed on the bus without this. Stern mum voice here. Consider this your official warning.

Feel free to jump to the music but whatever you do don’t jump fences.

Vehicle passes & traffic

Why do I have to buy a Vehicle Pass as well as an Event Camping ticket?

Vehicle passes are one of a number of initiatives designed to help alleviate traffic congestion. The plan is to reduce the number of cars on the road by encouraging car-pooling.

To learn more about Vehicle Passes please click here.

When are Vehicle Passes on sale?

Vehicle Passes for Splendour are on sale Monday 29 May at 9:00am AEST via moshtix. For more info visit the Vehicle Passes page here.

What if I arrive on a different day to what’s shown on my Vehicle Pass?

Please don’t! If camping patrons arrive on a different day to that shown on their vehicle pass, they will be refused entry to the site and only be able to enter the site on the day stated on their vehicle pass. Event-only patrons in private vehicles will only be admitted to the Day Car Park on Friday 21, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July, and on the day that their Day Parking Pass is valid for - the Day Car Park is closed on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 July.

What if I arrive without a Vehicle Pass?

Please don't. Catch a bus instead. It is worth noting that the events' traffic plan has been formulated in conjunction with the NSW Police, the Road and Maritime Service (RMS) and Byron Shire Council. All of those authorities support the Vehicle Pass plan and expect us to enforce it. So please get on board and don't turn up without a pre purchased Vehicle Pass. For more information on Vehicle Passes please click here.

If I’m camping on site how do I leave to get supplies when we can't take our cars out again?

Plan ahead folks and try to get all of your supplies before you get to the site. Otherwise we will have a well-stocked General Store on-site in the campgrounds and in the event area, which will probably have what you need. If not, shuttle buses will be available for trips to and from Ocean Shores Shopping Village, Brunswick Heads or Byron Bay.

Can I drive in and out of the Campground Parking Areas?

No. Once you have entered the site and your vehicle or Campervan, Caravan, Camper trailer etc is parked in their respective parking areas YOU CANNOT MOVE YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL YOU DEPART THE FESTIVAL. Staff may remove your Event and Camping wristband if you choose to exit before your final departure from the festival.

How do I go about car pooling my way to Splendour?

Make sure you head to Northern Rivers Carpool - a car pooling initiative hosted by Byron Shire Council alongside our neighbouring Councils.

Miler is a cool, Byron-made mobile app connecting passengers with drivers with a spare seat. You can post your ride to Splendour, share the costs and reduce traffic. For more info on Miler click here.

Or you can check out Ridevu for another Splendour ridesharing hook up!

Working/volunteering

What's the criteria for volunteers and when should I apply?

Please note, applications to become a volunteer for the 2017 Splendour in the Grass event have now closed. Please make contact in April 2018 for the 2018 event. Thank you.

Will I find out if I have a volunteer position before tickets go on sale?

Unfortunately not. We've got loads to organise and volunteer rosters are just one item on a very long ‘to do’ list. Also, doing rosters too early means we end up back-tracking when people pull out if they get a ticket or change their plans.

We usually notify successful applicants in June. We do not specify a date as staffing is just one of many aspects of planning that we have to cover.

Please note, if you send us an unsolicited work/volunteer email between August and May, you will receive an auto-response and your email will not be registered or replied to.

Applications to become a volunteer for the 2018 Splendour event will open in April, 2018.

What jobs do volunteers perform in return for a ticket and do I get free camping?

Volunteer staff work shifts in the entry tents, internal traffic control, car park co-ordination, recycling, camping etc, alongside paid personnel. Volunteers are required to do an average of 20-24 hours, depending upon the role’s level of responsibility or difficulty, in return for a full event ticket.

We don’t use volunteers for bars, ‘artist liaison’, production, publicity or admin. We don’t use any volunteers in backstage roles.

And yes, a camping spot is provided on site as part of the Event Volunteer program (not included for pre festival Volunteering).

Please note ALL volunteers must be aged 18 and over. Applications for the 2017 volunteers program have now closed. Please make contact in April next year for the 2018 Splendour in the Grass event.

Who organises the bar staff?

Applications for bar staff will be open from Wednesday 12 April, please email [email protected] after this date to register your interest.

Please note that local applicants will be given preference. These are paid positions, not voluntary, and bar staff do not get to see the show. You must have a current NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate to be considered for a bar position.

Can I get an internship as a backstage production/event management/promotions assistant?

Not really. Each year we do have arrangements in place with select tertiary institutions to utilise some students in relevant positions, eg environment science students as Eco Cops, but beyond that the best work experience available is in volunteer shifts such as wrist banding, camper registration, on-site traffic control etc.

Can I help with work with bands backstage in artist liaison?

Sorry, no. We have people in place for those positions. Also, note we do not use volunteers in those roles :)
