GET YOUR GREEN ON AT SPLENDOUR!!!
Listen up! If you get as upset as we do seeing rubbish lying around our beautiful home at North Byron Parklands, read on.
We’ve got a heap of awesome environmental programs in place to help you become a Waste Warrior. Time to step up and be a good environmental civilian.
While you’re at it, get your pals on board too. If you don’t, the Eco Cops will get you. For real.
Follow these simple steps to score major ‘greenie’ points.
SINGLE-USE PLASTIC IS SO 1988.
BRING YOUR OWN BOTTLE TO RE-FILL.
It’s time to get picky about plastic. This means plastic water bottles, straws, plastic cutlery, plastic cups, shopping bags and other one-night-stand plastics.
We need to see them gone from our waste streams for good.
By doing a few simple things, you can help us reduce plastic at Splendour:
- Bring a reusable water bottle and fill it at one of our water re-fill stations.
- Bring a reusable coffee cup to use for that morning kick starter.
- Bring a tote bag to go shopping in our Very Small Suburb and General Store.
DITCH YOUR RUBBISH CORRECTLY
Clearly signed and colour coded Waste Collection stations are conveniently located around the Splendour grounds.
Throw out your rubbish just like you would at home!
YELLOW BINS - RECYCLING
Are for clean paper, aluminium cans, plastic bottles (but not the lids) and tetra drink cartons.
GREEN BINS - COMPOSTABLE ITEMS
Are for all food scraps, labelled compostable and biodegradable plates and cups, napkins, chopsticks, and tea bags.
RED BINS - GENERAL WASTE & CRAPPY STUFF
Are for nappies, chip and lolly packets etc.
NO-ONE LIKES A CHEAP DATE. BUY A FOREVER TENT
Here at Splendour, we believe a tent is for life, not just for a festival. It’ll keep you warmer, hold up better in the elements and give you a tent load of happy #SITG memories!
Swipe right to purchase a keeper and kindly take it home with you when you leave.
DONATE YOUR TENT TO SOMEONE IN NEED OF SHELTER
This year our friends at Social Futures will again be accepting non-damaged camping gear (e.g. tents, roll mats, sleeping bags, air mattresses) that can be distributed to people in need.
This not only helps us with the festival clean-up but ensures that items you decide you might not need or use can be re-purposed and go to a good cause.
Keep an eye out for signs in the campgrounds indicating drop off points or ask one of our friendly Camp Marshals.

PLANT A TREE OR TWO
The legendary Splendour tree planting program is back!
Running over two mornings, Sat 21 July and Sun 22 July, between 10am and 1pm, our tree planting will be staffed by some of the finest bush regen crew the north coast has to offer.
If you’re keen to get down and dirty to help with the ongoing regen work at North Byron Parklands, please contact us here for more info.
SPLENDOUR’S COMPOSTING LOOS
After making their debut in 2014, the best seats in the house are back at Splendour!
Our 246 ground-breaking, eco-friendly composting toilet blocks are dotted in pods throughout the site to improve amenity and freak out the city kids! Designed in Oz, these award-winning toilets support Parkland’s environmental philosophy to manage water cycles (water and waste water) sustainably.
For more info on Parklands enviro initiatives click here.
Officer's badge, check. Handcuffs, check. Pollution sample collection kit, check. Wait, what?
Yep, the legendary Eco Cops return to lay down the law to protect and serve your festival environment. If you're illegally trashing Splendour, you’ll be hit with spot fines and a citizens’ arrest. This year’s swat team will be patrolling the event area to make sure that no one is stepping on Mother Nature’s toes.
Don’t want to get caught by the fuzz? Be a good environmental civilian.
THE WASTE WARRIORS
Splendour’s Waste Warriors are Environmental Science students that have been recruited to help combat waste in the campgrounds.
Their mission is simple. To recycle all that can be recycled! The Waste Warriors will be working their way through the Splendour campgrounds providing info about recycling and general waste facilities for our campers.
Please reduce, reuse and recycle at Splendour.
