CAMPING INFO

Can I bring a caravan, camper trailer or motorhome to Splendour?

Yes. BUT please read carefully before you go down this road as there are some important things you need to know before committing. Caravans, trailers, campers, and vans are welcome at Splendour, but this is a festival campground, not a tourist park.

  • None of Splendour’s campsites are powered. Repeat – the camping sites are not powered
  • There is no access to water for your rig and there are no BBQ facilities within the campground
  • Fires are not permitted at Splendour, so you won’t be toasting marshmallows
  • Importantly, there are no dump points for liquid waste so you will be required to take your load with you at the end
  • Butane gas cylinders are NOT permitted at Splendour in the Grass, only gas bottles that are in date as per manufacturer’s recommendation and professionally installed in purpose-built RVs and caravans are permitted

Remember if you’re planning to camp, either in a rig or under canvas, you must purchase a Camping Ticket and 3 Day Event Ticket for each person you’re camping with.

Each Camping Ticket is per person. That means each individual staying at your campsite will need to purchase a Camping Ticket.

Yes. A Camping Ticket is separate to a 3 Day Event Ticket. You need to purchase both if you plan to camp onsite.

Sorry but you won’t be able to choose your own camping spot. When you arrive at the campgrounds our friendly Camping Marshals will show you where to set up camp.

As a general guide, you are allocated enough space for a tent and small ‘living area’ that is roughly the length of 1.5 cars. Please remember that space is tight in the campgrounds so please don’t bring the kitchen sink.

Toilets and warm showers will be located throughout the campgrounds. Please be kind to the environment when using our award-winning facilities as there is no permanent water supply to the site. This means all water must be purchased and transported on and offsite.

Ngarindjin / North Byron Parklands has some of the finest, environmentally friendly compostable toilets and low-flow gas fired showers that have been purpose built just for you!

Everyone planning to sleep either inside or next to their vehicle will be parked in the same campsite. You’ll need the appropriate Vehicle Pass in order to do this. Vehicle Pass information will be available closer to the event.

Please note: in order to camp with your friends, you must all arrive at the same time.

Yep. There is only one price for the Camping Tickets. Only 3 Day Event Ticketholders are allowed to access the campgrounds.

  • Illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia
  • Alcohol brought in from outside of the event
  • Full or partly full bottles of water, juice, soft drink etc. (empty/sealed/unopened bottles are fine to bring in)

(* exceptions for families with children under 12 years of age)
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Fireworks, flares, fire twirling paraphernalia (sticks, balls etc)
  • Generators
  • Campfires are not permitted in the campgrounds
  • Any containers of liquid fuel (kerosene, petrol, diesel etc)
  • Laser Lights
  • No portable cooking devices
  • No gas lanterns
  • No butane gas cylinders
  • No gas bottles (other than those within a purpose-built RV, campervan &/or caravan, and must be certified, fitted and gas bottles must be in date as per manufacturer’s recommendation)
  • Couches, bean bags or large furniture items
  • Inflatable furniture of any kind (air mattresses are ok)
  • Video and audio recording devices, including Go Pros (other than mobile phones)
  • Professional still cameras (small still cameras ARE allowed)
  • Drones
  • Any candles or naked flames
  • Protest paraphernalia and banners
  • Culturally sensitive items and attire
  • Non-biodegradable glitter
  • Anything studded (belts, wristbands etc)
  • Clothing, jewellery, or accessory displaying the name of any motorcycle-related, gang or similar organisations or any “declared organisation” within the meaning of the Crimes (Criminal Organisation Control) Act 2009 is not permitted
  • In NSW is it a criminal offence to knowingly display a Nazi symbol in public. The new offence in the Crimes Act 1900 will carry a maximum penalty of 12 months’ imprisonment or a $11,000 fine or both for an individual; or a fine of $55,000 for a corporation.
  • Strictly no animals (with the exception of service or assistance animals, such as guide dogs)
  • Any other items considered illegal or dangerous

Sorry, no. For security reasons, only those with Camping Tickets or Camping wristbands are allowed in the campground. Anyone found in the campgrounds without the correct wristband will have their event wristband confiscated and will be ejected from the festival.

There are loads of info online for varying types of accommodation in the Byron area, but our Offsite Camping page is a good starting point.

Apart from Byron Bay’s own campgrounds, there are also great campgrounds in the area. You can also check out our Accommodation page for links to websites offering other accommodation options.

Put simply, NO. In the Splendour campgrounds, vehicles are parked in a way that makes leaving on the Sunday very difficult. Vehicles are parked tightly end-to-end, and your departure is dependent on the vehicle ahead of you leaving first, which happens after the festival on the Monday morning.

If you need to leave on Sunday night and are camping, your only option is to camp WITHOUT a vehicle in the campgrounds and leave the campgrounds with your gear on foot. If you are camping on Sunday but plan to leave early, please consider this BEFORE purchasing a Vehicle Pass for the campgrounds.

Vehicle Pass information will be available closer to the event.

We’ve worked hard over the last few years to make sure everyone has a soft landing at Ngarindjin / North Byron Parklands, and this particularly includes our camping buddies who chose to come by bus, private shuttle, taxi, Uber, or bike.

We have a dedicated ‘On Foot’ Camping area for those without cars; right near the Bus Stop, close to the festival entrance and surrounded by like-minded foot soldiers who have reduced their impact on the world by not bringing a car.

Anyone in the campgrounds that is 17 years of age or under MUST be accompanied by a Responsible Adult. See our Youth Policy for more information on minors at Splendour.

Butane gas cylinders are NOT permitted at Splendour in the Grass. Only gas bottles that are in date as per manufacturer’s recommendation and professionally installed in purpose-built RVs and Caravans are permitted.

No. Patrons are not permitted to have campfires or fires of any kind in the campgrounds. If you light a fire, you will be removed from the site and may be the subject of police action. Which would be a huge bummer. So, rug up instead.

During the festival, our General Store is available onsite for basic supplies. Food stalls will be operating in the campgrounds from Wednesday and will operate through to Monday afternoon.

Of course! You’re welcome to bring in your own food as long as it’s in its original, unopened packaging. Please be sure to only bring non-perishables, as there are no refrigeration or cooking facilities onsite.

No. Once parked, your vehicle CANNOT be moved again until you depart the festival.

The campgrounds are located in close proximity to the festival entertainment precinct. Please use the festival Splendour shuttle buses if you wish to leave the festival site. Festival shuttleSplendour buses will run between the festival site and surrounding locations including Ocean Shores, Brunswick Heads and Byron Bay. Fares apply.

When you’re packing, remember this – what comes in, must leave with you!

  • Ditch the elaborate set ups and keep it simple
  • Pack a reusable water bottle and fill it at one of our water re-fill stations
  • Pack a reusable coffee cup to use for that morning kick starter
  • Pack a tote bag to go shopping in our General Store and our many market stalls
  • And pack a forever tent

At Splendour we believe a tent is for life, not just for a festival. It’ll hold up better in the elements and give you a tent load of happy #SITG memories! If you try to save money by buying cheap, you’ll end up paying for it in the long run because you’ll be replacing your gear so often. Buy a keeper and kindly take it home with you when you leave.

NO! NO! NO!… and just for extra clarity NO!

Alcohol in the campgrounds is strictly prohibited. If you ignite fireworks or flares, you will be removed from the site and will be the subject of police action.

Please see here for a full list of banned items.

As well as onsite Camping Marshals, there will also be security personnel near the camping areas. The marshals’ campsite for each area is clearly marked with large signs. All queries and concerns should be directed to your marshals. Despite the best efforts of our staff and security personnel, there are still people who steal other’s belongings. Our advice – don’t bring valuables at all.

Sorry, but this one is non-negotiable. Every year loads of people hassle us about being “just one more person”. But the reality is the campground has a set capacity that we legally need to stick to, so once camping tickets sell-out we simply cannot put anyone else in there.

If you want to camp with your pals you must arrive at the same time. Campsites will be allocated by Splendour staff. You cannot save or ‘bags’ campsite space for friends arriving later. To camp together you must arrive together, so plan to arrive as a group. Friends that stick together, camp together!

None of the Splendour campsites are powered and generators are not permitted.

You can arrive after 10am on Wednesday 17 July. However, please do not arrive any earlier as we will not have staff available to admit you to the campgrounds. On Wednesday, campers can arrive between Please stick to these times.

Sometimes at festivals, things get left behind. And that’s just not good enough. Since there’s currently only one planet Earth on offer, we want every single camper at Splendour to leave no trace. Zero footprint. Zilch. Recycling facilities will be available throughout the venue in the entertainment area and campgrounds. Please recycle where possible.

In addition, please read the important points below.

  • Please respect Ngarindjin / North Byron Parklands and your fellow campers
  • Any unruly behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in your removal from the Event
  • No noise is permitted in the campground between midnight and 8am, this is a designated quiet period for the benefit of both local residents and campers
  • Look out for your friends and fellow campers
  • Leave valuables at home
  • Report any suspicious behaviour to your area marshal or security immediately
  • Always follow the directions of campground staff and security personnel
  • Please respect our neighbours, local residents and the local environment
  • The neighbouring nature reserve and forest blocks are sensitive environments that are out of bounds. Please respect the land that we walk on
  • Don’t drop ciggie butts on the ground, BIN IT!
  • Keep your campground litter free

The Meadow is our family friendly campground, tucked away from the rest of the campers so you have some privacy when you’re trying to put your kids to sleep. The Meadow features some handy extras like play equipment to keep the kiddies busy, a microwave, change table, and more.
