In a short span of time, Sydney artist Becca Hatch has carved an enviable niche in the Australian contemporary R&B and dance scene that is wholly her own. The Kamilaroi / Samoan artist first rose to prominence winning triple j Unearthed High’s Indigenous Initiative (2017). Since then, Becca has established herself as a dynamic artist whose voice is bringing R&B / dance-centric music back to prominence. Courting attention with the release of debut single 2560 (2020), Hatch instantly demonstrated a vocal proficiency well beyond her years with a tone drenched in rich soul quality. The release of club-ready singles Without You and Blessed (2022) saw a self-assured Becca experimenting with a new direction. Both tracks showcased Hatch’s ability to move seamlessly from her R&B roots into the disco / dance / pop world and were championed by triple j, FBi, and iHeart Australia. The same year, Becca played over 40 shows including debut headline events at Phoenix Central Park and Sydney Opera House, as well as winning new fans supporting Spacey Jane and Vera Blue on their national tours. Now a multiple APRA Award and ARIA Award (2023) nominee, Becca is conscious of the positive role she can play for her contemporaries – particularly in her community – and is refusing to be defined or boxed in by labels, genre restrictions or public perception.
